Khao Kheow Open Zoo

Whilst on our family holiday in Pattaya during September 2010 we took a day out to visit Khao Kheow Open Zoo. It is an open zoo which means you can actually interact and hand feed some of the animals. (This wouldn't be allowed in the UK).

Khao Kheow Open Zoo covers a vast area and it is best to take you car and drive, stopping at the various section in the zoo. However Golf carts can also be hire to help travel around the zoo.

There are kinds of animals here including lions, tigers hippos, giraffes, elephants, birds, monkeys and more.

--> As we entered the park we came across some small deer like animals, so we got out the car and spent some time feeding them. They were actually quite friendly and didn't seem scared or nervous of people. I guess by now they have become use to it.

There are stations at various sections of the zoo where food can be purchased to feed the animals. Most of the plant eating animals can be fed, some by hand including the giraffes, rhinos and elephants.

As we steadily worked our round the zoo we encountered the hippos, giraffes, meerkats, bears and rhinos.
At certain times of the day there are animal shows here. Our first one was the bird show which features all types of exotic birds like parrots and macaws.

Moving on we saw otters, crocodiles and zebras before we reached a walk through aviary with all kinds of different birds on show. One of the highlights of the day was the big cat show which featured tigers, lions, hyenas and jaguars.
